Childhood memories

Some my earliest childhood memories of Uncle Gordie were of him coaching my hockey team. I still have my first ever hockey trophy that he gave me and only last year passed it along to my oldest daughter explaining when I got it so many years ago and who my coach was back then to present me the trophy. He was always committed to coaching and as most coaches do, had a profound influence on so many kids over the years. Kids always remember a good coach.. Then as I grew older his many visits to my parents home and him trying to show off his hand to hand combat moves. He never stopped trying to give me a fake cuff on the chops even years after being on the police force. I am pretty sure I could have taken him then. But still wouldnt have tried! Then his jokes! He always had a good joke. Ok may not have always been good, but he still always had a joke to tell us. I was proud to watch him for many years on tv at the War Memorial in Ottawa at the annual Remembrance Day Ceremonies. I have many more great memories. Camping in that noisy green van. Learning to fly fish on the Mississippi River with him and Roy. You will be hard to forget around my house as we name our son...Cooper or as everyone says, Coop. Ill make sure he doesnt get into the cigars though. Keep your stick on the ice Uncle Gordie. Paul Brule
