It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Don, aged 95, after a long life, well lived. He died peacefully at hospital on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. Predeceased by his loving wife Betty (2010) of 64 years. Don was the oldest of four brothers (Ian, Al and Ron) born to John and Edith Robertson of Toronto. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Andrew (Yvonne), Heather and Kathy, and grandchildren Tara (Tom) and Christine. Don was a WWII veteran, who served in Italy, France and Belgium, with the Royal Westminster Regiment. He worked for the Public Service Commission for over 40 years, with Veteran Affairs and the Canadian Revenue Association. It was there that he met his wife Betty. Betty and Don originally settled in Etobicoke, then moved to Ottawa in 1968, as they fell in love with the city on their honeymoon. Don was a very active member in the United Church, Bloordale in Etobicoke and Merivale in Ottawa. Friends are invited to the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Ave. for visitation Friday September 1 from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral will be held at Merivale United Church, 1876 Merivale Road, Saturday September 2 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Merivale United Church outreach programs.
