Obituary for Magdalene Selma Weld (Boeddinghaus)

(née Boeddinghaus) March 9, 1918 – August 8, 2017 Peacefully in Herne, Germany, in her 100th year. Beloved wife of the late James Dewar McLaurin Weld and cherished mother of James (Kelly), Dorothy (Kurt Boeddinghaus), and Madeline (Alan Clarke). Dear Omi to Michael Weld, Ansel Clarke and Derwin Clarke (Roshnie Kabir); and one great-grandchild. Magda was born in Münster, Germany, but grew up in Berlin. She met her future husband while working at the Canadian Military Mission in Berlin after the war, and they were married in November, 1949. As the wife of a diplomat, Magda raised her children in Canada, the USA, Brazil, Pakistan, and Switzerland. Magda was an avid reader, especially of history, of which she had a deep knowledge, a lover of the arts, and a talented amateur artist. She strove to bring beauty into her home and garden. Magda was kind and gracious to all whom she met. She had a soft spot for animals, and animal shelters and wildlife organizations were among the charitable organizations that she generously supported. Magdalene will be remembered as a true lady by all who knew her. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Friday, September 8th, 2017, after 10am until time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 11am. Reception to following the service.
