Obituary for Douglas Baird Bruce
1920-2017
A quiet but always giving man passed away on July 15, 2017 at the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre. Son of the late James Bruce and Helen Graham. Doug was predeceased by his loving wife Lois (nee Slemon). He leaves behind his children Clarke(Su), Edward, Norman (Sharon), and Jamie (Diane). He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by his sister Airlie and brother Cameron. After spending over 30 years in the RCAF, Doug became a teacher. He was a master gardener at the Experimental Farm, experimented in making jams, jellies and mustards, created many stained glass works and spent his retired life volunteering where needed. Special thanks to the wonderful Staff at the Perley G2N.
Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Tuesday, July 18 from 2-4pm followed by a Celebration of Doug’s Life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Companions Seniors’ Centre or the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre.
