Peacefully at Hillel Lodge, with family at her side, on June 21, 2017 at the age of 92. Beloved wife of Captain RCN (Ret’d) Gordon Spergel for 68.5 years. Loving and devoted mother of Alan (Julie) Spergel, Brian (Kippy) Spergel, Brenda (Ray) Ryan, and Mark (Marla) Spergel. Cherished grandmother “Bubbie” of Gillian (Jordan), Andrew (Eryn), Jaz (Sophie), Samantha (Carson), Tori, Evan, Matt (Ashley) and great-grandmother “Super Bubbie” of Carter and Aaron.
Predeceased by her parents Hyman and Sophie Bolter, her brother Norman, and her sister Rose. Survived by her younger sister Beverly.
Laura will be sadly missed and remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks for the great care that Laura received over the years at Carlingwood Retirement Community, at Valley Stream Manor, and more recently, at Hillel Lodge.
Funeral will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue, Ottawa on Friday, June 23 at 11am with interment to follow at Jewish Memorial Gardens-0sgoode Cemetery, 6549 Herberts Corners Road, Greely. All are invited to 458 Tilbury Avenue, Ottawa immediately following the interment.
Shiva will be held in Ottawa at 458 Tilbury Avenue, on Sunday, June 25 from 10am – 12noon, 2-5:30pm, 7-8:30pm and will continue in Toronto at 229 Maxwell Street, on Monday, June 26 from 7:30-9:30pm and Tuesday, June 27 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm.
